Super Hunger Chef: A culinary tour of the world featuring food from Jody Adams (Rialto, Trade), Ming Tsai (Blue Ginger), Brooke Vosika (The Bristol Lounge), and several other local chefs. We’re bringing a wine for each station, and our friends at Harpoon will provide beer. This event takes place on Wednesday, January 25th at the Four Seasons in Boston, tickets are $125.

Earlier in the week we received samples of 94 and 96 point Super Tuscans. What is a Super Tuscan? Jarrod suggested that it was “some Italian guy in a cape”…maybe not, but this wine tasted so good it made us want to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

Super Tuscans are the creme de la creme and founding member of a category of red Italian blends also known as Indicazione Geografica Tipical (IGT) wines. This category was invented to describe styles of Italian wine that are not typical for the country, but is too darn tasty to not make. In the case of our Super Tuscan, it means mixing up traditional Sangiovese with French grapes like Cabernet and Merlot grown in the heart of Tuscany. So why the comic book worthy name? “Super Tuscan” was coined by Robert Parker in the 1970s to describe skillfully blended and supremely delicious IGT wine that might otherwise be labelled as vino da tavola, which is Italian for “table wine.” Fancy, huh?

Well, we’d be happy to have this wines on our table any day, and we thought you would too. We put in an offer and we were able to get our hands on over 2,000 cases that are slated to come in early 2012, meaning this Super Tuscan will be our Lot 57. We’re no heroes, but we do have the power to bring you some super delicious wine.
